Unfortunately, InvisionPlus is a rapidly sinking ship Argh

and we are watching different parts of the forum shut down where as administrators we do no longer have access to the control panel and the post text is beginning to degrade. We will be shutting that forum down and need your help to move YOUR personal threads over here, if you hope to keep them intact. I can only do so much and have a life here off the computer.. I think. Suspect

I've done my best to help various members by moving their threads over here but I have to save my own first now for obvious reasons ~ it would truly be too depressing to lose it yet all again!

So we are asking you to step up to the keyboard and transfer over your data. It really is better if you post your own data anyway as you can then go in and add, change or delete something.

OBVIOUSLY I'M STILL LEARNING THIS FORUM BUT THE BAD NEWS IS THAT INVISIONPLUS IS DEGRADING AND WE NEED TO MOVE OUR THREADS OVER TO HERE AND I NEED YOUR HELP. WE CAN NO LONGER ACCESS THE ADMIN CONTROLS, THE TEXT IS DEGRADING AND THERE ARE A HOST OF OTHER PROBLEMS POPPING UP EACH DAY.

PLEASE HELP US BY MOVING YOUR THREADS OVER TO THIS FORUM SO WE DON'T LOSE THEM. BECAUSE OF THE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WE WILL BE CLOSING THE INVISION SITE DOWN AND LOCKING ALL OF THE THREADS WITH LINKS TO HEAVEN.

What do you mean by degrading ? ... It's digitally stored data ...
I am not sure about the various forum frameworks but I guess the forum data is stored in a database ... often mySQL is used.
With mySQL comes features like phpMyAdmin ... if so the database can be exported and downloaded.

When both forums use the same framework it should be not too difficult to merge the old data ... otherwise the data needs to be
converted ... (some conversion is always needed b.t.w. since a member id on one forum is different from the id on the other forum).

I realize this is a very technical answer but I don't know how to put it otherwise ....

This is a sample of what is going on with the text..

�re married to someone, you know their facial expressions, you know their responses to things. Any time I brought this subject up she would always have this programmed response. I�d hold her by the shoulders and look straight into her eyes and say, �Theresa, what do you think about this?� Her facial expression was one that I�m not familiar with and she would respond in some silly way, by saying �I don�t know what you�re talking about.�

Email doesn't work
300 text limit installed without any notice
site taken down without any prior notice for several days
no admin access to control panel
no admin access to members email addresses
no help from server as the phone listed is disconnected
sever under spam attacks
site possibly hacked as existing code isn't working correctly
cannot merge forums due to a number of other factors using free forums.

Merduriel can explain some of this stuff better then I.

That sounds like a big bunch of problems ...
If there's no access at all to Control Panels etc. it will become very difficult indeed.

If there's still ftp (file transfer protocol) access ... we may gain control there (or telnet).

The malformed characters are less a problem ... pages are shown with a certain encoding.
The pages here are set to UTF-8 (that's good) but apparently code is missing or hacked .... it looks like the single quotes
are malformed ... it 's because of missing encoding functions ...
I think the source text is probably still unharmed ....

Operator.. we have no access at all to any control features other then within a thread and we have no idea how that will last given how quickly the site is deteriorating. One would think someone hacked in the backdoor given some of what is going on with the changes in text coding. It is virtually impossible to contact a real human at the other end of the host for the forum.

I moved Rareheart's thread from invision to Heavens as due to computer problems he is unable
to do this himself at the moment .

My own threads are already here .
If I can help on any other threads that are left in invision and that the owners can't move themselves

Well - Like I have said in the Past - I'm kind of an Old Hat at running WebSites and such so I'll detail to You the SITU.

That Forum allowed the ONLY acces to the Behind the Scenes Operation of the Forums at the prior address VIA the ACP Interface. This means that any access to the MySQL or any of the Databases for that matter were accessable ONLY from the Admin ACP or the Moderator CP...

With that said - Downloads of the MYSQL at that Forum were the only feature of It allowed - No Edits - Nada nothing other than to view 'em and then download 'em so the Host could ask for 'em from You and then Upload them by their own means in order to resurrect the Forums to former stature over there. In order to do that now - A Call to support would be needed - Which has been to say the least - Non-existant with that Host.

There never was FTP access to the Old Forums and without being able to get into the ACP due to a Codebase Error - Nothing further can be done without Support from the Host @ Invision.

Now check this. Gone Fishing and I have both previously Emailed Our former Host and got Our Emails Returned, and then when We went the Phone Route - The Number was found to be Disconnected.

Add All of that to the NOW - 300 Character Post Limit - The Lag in accessing those Forums for alot of Members - And Y'all tell me when to call a Dead Horse a Dead Horse...

I am copying all that I feel have any value (not "thank yous" and "your welcomes" type) to a Word document and when I get a chance I will transfer them to the new forum. I'm only doing mine so as not to cause so many duplications in case others are doing the same.

This is curious: In copying my post from the old forum, I noticed that when my name was included in a post, it was colored over with a big blob of yellow. If I didn't know that my name had been there, there would be no way to tell the poster was addressing me. What's that all about - does anyone know?
