Should We - The Community of the MoA - Expand Our Web Portal

This Thread's main purpose is to gain a Consensus of the Mists Of Avalon Online Community's perspective of a Yes or No Choice RE whether We as a Community should expand Our Web Portal by Incorporating a WebSite into Our Affairs or not.

We will also answer all Questions of a Technical Nature about this expansion as asked about in this Thread and would appreciate that All inquiries relative to this Issue be made as well from this point forward - In this Thread...

I dont see the harm in it, I'm on the fence. I strongly beleive that the main focus should be the forum.
A few web pages could be useful for digests, compendiums of useful links, things like that. I would balk at hosting media because that would open you up to scalability problems (such as plagued PA whenever Bill released a new video).

I think it would be nice if the site had a nice front comprising of some kind of a portal with important news and links, perhaps a blog / articles section, and a dedicated section of the forum for replies to those entries. That would likely require a CMS which is known to easily integrate the phpBB, which, in my experience, can be a major pain tho ... Also - would it be mainly aimed at the MoA community or towards more general public? Either way it would also likely require a dedicated team of people to keep it up-to-date I guess.

Thank you Mudra-san, you're too kind : ) Anyways, submitted as suggested.

The design proposal is a quickie, meant mainly for the concerned parties to have something more solid to discuss, such as what should be there and what shouldn't, what it should like or not etc. My experience with clients suggests it often helps : )

Your views do resonate a lot with me Floyd .
Taking things to another level ... transforming the world by actually putting our hands and heart into it ..and shaping our dreams so that they finally manifest into reality I feel has been the concern of several in PA.
Some made it to a life closer to their heart and mother earth but there is still a lot to do to move from where we are now to where we really want to be as a community .
It is dear to my heart to see more of these selfsustaining communities building up as time goes by .
May the Mists be a spring board to a better and wiser way of life .

I vote yes. I really like Floyd's idea of the medieval market place. I have several books to give away...just for the cost of shipping: $2.65. Swaptree is an example of this. We could have our own market. No money to change hands, just books and dvd's and cd's sent to each other in mutual agreement and on the honor system. I also like the ideas of sharing art, writing, and so forth. As long as the web designers want to put in their hours, why not? We all benefit. Welcome to our new world.

Floyd, could you be a bit more specific on what functionality you would like? Could you compile them in a short list? I might have building blocks for what you need and I'd definitely consider undertaking such project if you're interested :-) I couldn't dedicate 100% of my time to it of course, as, like most of us, I need to make ends meet, so it would proly take a bit to develop, but I really like your idea.
