Freemen-On-The-Land: Little-Known 'Sovereign Citizen' Movement Emerged From Shadows In 2013

CALGARY - A so-called sovereign citizen movement emerged from the shadows in 2013 with the story of a pensioner whose rental duplex was claimed as an "embassy" by a follower and his friends.

A week after Rebekah Caverhill of Calgary went public with her two-year struggle, authorities swooped in, arrested a man and transferred him to Quebec to face allegations that he assaulted a landlady in Montreal.

While Caverhill's ordeal ended peacefully and she has her home back, it focused the attention of politicians, police and pundits on a movement often referred to as Freeman-on-the-Land and whose members believe they live outside government control.

The Law Society of B.C. and B.C. Notaries have both issued warnings about Freemen and the RCMP and the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police are developing awareness materials for frontline officers.

Even the Canadian Security Intelligence Service is concerned. It has noted that law-enforcement agencies have seen "an increase in the number of incidents related to (Freemen) anti-government ideology in Canada."

"We've been paying attention to them," said John Thompson from the Mackenzie Institute, an organization that studies terrorism, political extremism and organized crime. "They've become a Canadian phenomenon since about 2008. There's several hundred of them in Ontario and they're slowly growing the last few years."

The movement traces its roots to the Montana Freemen, who declared themselves to be no longer under the authority of any outside government. They made a splash in 1996 when they engaged in a prolonged armed standoff with agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation who attempted to arrest some of the group's members at a farm in Jordan, Mont.

    Mary Elisabeth Croft

    A Spiritual Economics Book

This site would not have been possible without the dedicated work of Mary Elizabeth Croft whose work is an inspiration to us all. How I Clobbered every Bureaucratic Cash-Confiscatory Agency known to Man ... a Spiritual Economics Book, gives the reader a wonderful spiritual perspective to this subject, as well as a thorough understanding of the fraudulent nature of the global banking system. She explains very clearly how she came to realise that there was something wrong with the whole system within our society. She also gives an outline of how to deal with banks, credit card companies and debt collectors completely lawfully. She has been a great inspiration to those of us who are challenging the system.

Check links , read book etc...

I truly do not have much respect for Elizabeth Croft. It was obvious from the beginning that she had no respect in paying her fedex packages. She looked to "take" from the System. We need to be Custodians, in honor.. and not take from others who also work to feed their families. This is not Justice.. This is taking advantage of. I have no respect for anyone who wishes to "steal" and then then come to us with an Opinion on how they are "worthy"...

I keep trying to Imagine Heaven (on Earth or Elsewhere) -- and it seems to me that Heaven would be an Idealistic Socialist-Theocracy. Unfortunately -- achieving such a state of affairs (especially in a sustainable manner) would probably be nearly impossible (which might help to explain why we are in such a mess). The Sovereignty of God -- and Human Responsible Freedom -- in a Dynamic Equilibrium -- would probably be ideal. Unfortunately -- achieving such a state of affairs (especially in a sustainable manner) would probably be nearly impossible (which might help to explain why we are in such a mess). At what point does the Sovereignty of God become an Unrighteous-Dictatorship?? At what point does Human Freedom become Irresponsible Rebellion Against God?? I'm modeling the possibility that the universe is more "rough and tumble" than I was taught -- and that Guardians of the Galaxy might be closer to the truth than we'd like to think. I'm looking toward the "Righteous Warrior King" model of Leadership and Divinity -- although "Righteous Warrior Queen" might be closer to the truth!! A futuristic United States of the Solar System might require a Righteous Warrior King and Queen (holding down the fort) while a Righteous Warrior God takes care of business throughout the galaxy!! BTW -- I've been thinking in terms of Micro-Competition and Macro-Cooperation for a United States of the Solar System -- which might be a Mysterious-Blend of Capitalism and Socialism!! What if everyone had the same income and net-worth -- yet competed for the best schools, jobs, and spouses??!! What if people were paid to go to church (with no collection-plate)??!!

I've had my best "church-experiences" while playing pipe-organs in empty churches (or singing in church-choirs). Sometimes I think that all church-members should be choir-members -- and that every church-service should be similar to a Handel's Messiah Sing-Along!! What if the preacher, choirmaster, and organist were one-person -- and that most every church-service were a choir-rehearsal??!! My suggestion that people get paid to attend church (or at least not be expected to pay anything to be a church-member) would remove the pressure on preachers to preach that which gets the bills paid, and keeps the rich loudmouths quiet!! Money Talks!! Even in God's Church!! I simply think this Earth (and possibly the Solar System) has been ruled in a rather harsh manner for a very long time (for probably legitimate and illegitimate reasons) and that it might be time to move up to bigger and better things for all-concerned. The Grand and Expensive Churches are already built -- so why not use them to their full potential??!! I presently don't think that a lot of new church-buildings should be built -- but that the best of the existing church-buildings should be heavily utilized 7 days a week (possibly as schools) -- with the worst church-buildings sold-off (with the resources then used by the better church situations). That's just my present bias. I think that Religion and Churches are in HUGE Trouble presently -- and that the Info-War is going to get increasingly nasty for all-concerned (especially in the areas of History and Religion). There are a lot of skeletons hidden in a lot of confessionals!! I just started reading The Five Gospels by the Jesus Seminar!! I am presently supportive of Church-Scholarship, Church-Liturgy, and Church-Music (as a place of beginning). A New-Reformation should be Evolutionary rather than Revolutionary. We have many things to learn -- and even more things to unlearn!!

I am following you there Oxy.When I was quite young I once sneaked into an empty village church with a friend . We climbed the stairs and played the pipe organ for a little while until the priest came and kindly asked us to leave. This was a short but nonetheless wonderful experience. The builders of these places certainly knew something about music and seemed to have carefully designed these Old churches around it. I don't think the new Churches are as good as the old ones where every stone , piece of wood or glass was crafted by hand with sweat and faith over decades.
I can relate to your beautiful experience there playing the pipe-organs and singing in church choirs.

He renounced Australia and lives solely by tribal law. Now Murrumu is hitting the road
Murrumu Walubara Yidindji gave up Australian money, his citizenship, and now he drives under Yidinji tribal law. For the authorities, it’s a novel situation

For the past week or so a black 2001 Ford Ka has been cruising Canberra’s streets. It’s a modest, unimposing car that would, except for its distinctive number plates, elicit little attention.
The black and gold plates read: “ Yidindji - YID-001 - Pursuant to Yidindji Tribal Law.”
The car’s driver is Murrumu Walubara Yidindji, a man in his 40s from the country around Cairns, north Queensland, who last year decided to voluntarily “leave Australia” and live by the tribal law of his Indigenous people, the Yidindji.
For Murrumu (formerly the National Indigenous Television political journalist known as Jeremy Geia) leaving Australia almost a year ago began with a series of small practical and equally symbolic steps.
He renounced his Australian citizenship, returned his passport and Medicare card to the Australian Commonwealth, and sent his driver’s licence back to the chief minister of the Australian Capital Territory, where he then lived. Then Murrumu – who has since returned to live permanently in Yidindji country – quit his job, gave away most possessions and walked away from his bank savings and a superannuation account built up over two decades.
He had, in his words, “abandoned the Australian citizen ship”.
Now, during a visit to the national capital he has, since 2 January, been driving around in YID-001, a car that was, Murrumu says, “licensed to the sovereign Yidindji government” on the first day of the new year.
The number plates are already in use in Yidindji country. But Murrumu said he decided to release YID-001 “in Ngambri (Canberra in Walgalu, the language of the custodians of the plains upon which the national capital is imposed) for the very symbolic gesture that the head office called Parliament House of the Commonwealth of Australia is located there”.
    He said:
Most Aussies are learning now that the jurisdiction known as the Commonwealth of Australia does not yet constitutionally recognise the Aboriginal tribes of the geographical land mass known as Australia. The failure to constitutionally recognise the Yidindji in the foundation legal document of the jurisdiction of the Commonwealth of Australia means that the Yidindji ... are not bound by any of the laws and statutes created by the authority of the Australian constitution.
Nonetheless, before taking YID-001 for a spin on the Tuggeranong Parkway, Murrumu and his associates did inform the police that the car licensed to the Yidiindji government would be driving on local roads.
“The Tuggeranong (police) station accepted our public notices and paperwork. But one officer told me he’s never come across this situation before,” Murrumu said.
Doubtless, the police officer was telling the truth. Murrumu’s situation is unusual, though far from unique; in the past month I’ve met other Indigenous Australians from elsewhere on the continent who are also renouncing Australian citizenship in favour of tribal law.

Thank-you mudra. I've recently been wondering about the possibility of a church which used the following Books of the Bible (plus the Great-Hymns) as it's Book of Common Prayer:

    1. Job.
    2. Psalms.
    3. Proverbs.
    4. Ecclesiastes.
    5. Song of Songs.
    6. Isaiah.
    7. The Greatest Hymns of the Ages.

These six books are some of the earliest Books of the Bible -- yet, in many ways, they seem to be some of the best. To me -- there's nothing like a Hymn Well-Sung. I agree that most of the older-churches are better than the new-churches. Even the 1928 Book of Common Prayer is better than the 1979 Book of Common Prayer -- and a lot of Roman Catholics prefer the Traditional Latin Mass over the Novus Ordo Mass. I'm frankly tired of beating against the Rocks of Religion (and Kicking Against the Pricks) -- so I'm in the process of withdrawing from everyone and everything (especially politics and religion). I've had quite enough -- thank you very much...

Thank you for sharing this, mudra. I flew over Google Earth and found that, near the first of May
I will be south of Nottingham in Somerset. I can imagine, when I don't find a chance to be present
on that day, that this Nottingham event is the start of a whole chain of events, aiming at restoring
freedom and sovereignty. There's a stronger drive for justice and freedom in English people in general
compared to Dutch people. It's great that this man in the tubby mentions King Arthur, for there's a
spark alive in that island, waiting to be noticed in its islander hearts again.

"Ye olde trip to Jerusalem......." what a great name for a pub Cheerful

Regarding Englands nature, Shakespeare said it well in this poem:

This Royal Throne of Kings, this sceptred Isle
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars.
    This other Eden, demi-paradise.
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war.
This happy breed of men, this little world.
This precious stone set in the silver sea.
Which serves it in the office of a wall.
Or as a moat defensive to a house.
Against the envy of less happier lands.
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm
    THIS ENGLAND.

    William Shakespeare

BB by all means it would be great if you could attend this event and share the outcome of it with us.
I am really looking forward to what will come out of this.
I know there is a whole movement of sovereigns in England so this should indeed be an event one
    should keep eyes on.
