Earthquakes in the world on May 12 , 2015 (M4.5 or more) – massive aftershock eat of Kathmandu
May 2015 – NEPAL – A major 7.3 magnitude earthquake has hit Nepal tonight, less than three weeks after a devastating quake left thousands dead and buildings ruined. The quake was originally designated as a 7.4 event, but it was later downgraded to a 7.3 magnitude quake by the USGS. Several buildings collapsed in the isolated town of Chautara, with at least four people killed, according to Paul Dillon, a spokesman with the International Organization for Migration. A rescue team from the agency has begun searching through the wreckage of the little town, he said. Chautara has become a hub for humanitarian aid in the wake of a major April 25 quake that killed more than 8,150 people and injured more than 17,860 as it flattened mountain villages and destroyed buildings. Tuesday’s quake was deeper, however, coming from a depth of 18.5 kilometers (11.5 miles) versus the April 25th quake that hit 15 kilometers (9.3 miles).

More shallow earthquakes tend to cause more damage at the surface. It was followed closely by at least five aftershocks measuring from magnitude 5.6 to magnitude 6.3. The international airport in Kathmandu, which has become a transport hub for international aid, was closed temporarily, while traffic snarled in the streets of Kathmandu. “The shaking seemed to go on and on,” said Rose Foley, a UNICEF official based in Kathmandu. “It felt like being on a boat in rough seas.”

Aid agencies were still struggling Tuesday afternoon to get reports from outside of the capital. “We’re thinking about children across the country, and who are already suffering. This could make them even more vulnerable,” Ms Foley said. In the capital of Kathmandu, the quake sent people rushing outside of their homes. The tremors in Kathmandu lasted close to a minute according to an AFP correspondent in the city, with the ground swaying. Sirens could be heard soon afterwards and people were seen running screaming onto the streets of Kathmandu and nearby cities, while telephone connections were down.

“Looks like Nepal will be destroyed completely this time,” one resident shouted, while others were putting up tents in open spaces that they had only recently taken down. At the Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu, patients and doctors rushed to the parking lot. “I thought I was going to die this time,” said Sulav Singh, who rushed with his daughter into the street in the suburban neighborhood of Thapathali. “Things were just getting back to normal, and we get this one.” Police gave no immediate estimates of damage. Indian Embassy spokesman Abhay Kumar said some buildings in Kathmandu collapsed, but he gave no further details about how many or where they were. Experts say the April 25 quake caused extensive structural damage even in buildings that did not topple, and that many could be in danger of future collapse. –NZ Herald

Moderate 5.3 magnitude earthquake shakes buildings in Tokyo, Japan

May 2015 – TOKYO, JAPAN – A strong quake shook buildings in Tokyo on Monday, setting off alarms and temporarily bringing the city’s subway system to halt, AFP reporters in the Japanese capital said. Scientists said there was no risk of a tsunami from the quake, which had a magnitude of 5.3, according to the US Geological Survey. The Japan Meteorological Agency earlier put it at 5.6. Both runways at Narita Airport, the main international gateway to Tokyo, were temporarily closed so staff could check for any damage. Neither was affected. Alarms on mobile phones and in buildings sounded as the quake developed with a series of vertical bounces, as well as a side-to-side shaking.

The quake struck at a relatively shallow 35 kilometers (22 miles), the USGS said, putting its epicenter just 34 kilometers north of the heaving metropolis of Tokyo, one of the most densely populated areas in the world. National broadcaster NHK reported the effects were felt over a large area around the capital. However, there were no immediate reports of injuries or any damage, including at any of the shuttered nuclear power stations in the region. A massive 9.0 magnitude quake that struck off the country’s northeast coast in 2011 generated a powerful tsunami that wreaked havoc in a wide area.

As well as killing more than 18,000 people, it destroyed thousands of homes and sparked a nuclear emergency at Fukushima when waves swamped reactor cooling systems. Japan is located at the junction of a number of the earth’s tectonic plates and experiences around a fifth of the planet’s most powerful quakes every year. But rigid building codes and strict enforcement mean even powerful quakes that might devastate other parts of the world frequently do little damage to Japanese infrastructure. –DM

Earthquake swarm reported outside Costa Rican capital – region shaken by 23 tremors

May 2015 – COSTA RICA – In a span of eight hours on Monday night and into early Tuesday, experts from the University of Costa Rica and the National University registered at least 23 temblors with epicenters located north of the province of Cartago, some 22 kilometers northeast of the Costa Rican capital.

Ronny Quintero, a seismologist at UNA’s Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) reported that the temblors originated on local faults west of Irazú Volcano’s main crater. Experts said they are not directly related to the volcano’s activity. The first occurred at 8:19 p.m. with a magnitude of 3.1 and and an epicenter 10 kilometers northwest of Pacayas. Several minor earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.4 to 3.7 followed, mainly in areas north and east of Cartago in the cantons of Jiménez and Oreamuno. Most of the minor quakes went unnoticed by local residents.

The strongest, at magnitude-4.2, was registered at 8:50 p.m. with an epicenter 9 kilometers northeast of San Rafael de Oreamuno. The most recent was reported at 7:09 a.m. on Tuesday with a magnitude of 2.4. OVSICORI received reports from residents throughout the Central Valley who felt at least three of the temblors, but there has been no significant damage or injuries. –Tico Times

Strong 7.8 magnitude earthquake strikes off Japan’s coast – shakes buildings in Tokyo
POWERFUL QUAKE STRIKES OFF JAPAN; NO TSUNAMI WARNING

    http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/AS_JAPAN_EARTHQUAKE?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2015-05-30-07-58-53

TOKYO (AP) -- A powerful and extremely deep earthquake struck near remote Japanese islands and shook most of the country Saturday evening, but officials said there was no threat of a tsunami, and no injuries or damage were immediately reported.

The magnitude-8.5 offshore quake struck off the Ogasawara islands at a depth of 590 kilometers (370 miles), Japan's Meteorological Agency said. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 7.8 and a depth of 678 kilometers (421 miles).

The temblor was powerful enough to rattle most of Japan, from the southern islands of Okinawa to Hokkaido in the north. Buildings swayed in Tokyo - about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) north of the Ogasawara islands - and disrupted some train services in the city. About 400 houses in Saitama prefecture, just north of Tokyo, were without power, according to the Tokyo Electric Power Co.

At Tokyo's Roppongi Hills shopping and business complex, elevators stopped soon after the earthquake struck the area.

Yoshiyuki Sasamoto, a municipal official on Chichijima island, which is part of the Ogasawara island group, said he initially felt a mild tremor, but when he thought it was over "there was a violent shaking and I couldn't even stand on my feet."

At an inn on the Ogasawara island of Hahajima, furniture shook violently, although nothing fell or broke, innkeeper Michiko Orita told public broadcaster NHK. "It was so frightening. The entire house shook and a Buddhist altar violently swayed like I have never experienced before," she said, adding that all her guests were safe.

NHK said there were no reports of injuries or damage from the quake.

May 2015 – ALASKA – An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck off the southwest coast of Alaska on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The USGS said the quake’s epicenter was 104 km (64 miles) south-southeast of Ugashik and 51. km deep. The quake was originally measured as a 6.8 magnitude event, but was later upgraded to a 7.0 event by the USGS. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that based on its available data, no tsunami was expected. The USGS said the quake had a low likelihood of causing casualties and damage, and there were no immediate reports of such. The area near the quake, centered some 400 miles (643 km) southwest of Anchorage, is lightly populated, according to the USGS. –Reuters

6/01/2015 — LARGE 5.8 + 5.5 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKES STRIKE WEST COAST UNITED STATES / OREGON
A noteworthy magnitude 5.8 earthquake has struck off the shores of Oregon along the West coast of the United States.

    5.5m earthquake june 1 2015

UPDATE 7am CDT June 1, 2015:  Two additional earthquakes have struck this location since making this original post…. measuring magnitude 5.5, and 4.3M

These earthquakes were forecast to occur this week, forecast issued 2 days ago.

Within the past 24 hours, we saw two West coast earthquakes which led up to this movement near the coast or Oregon.

First, a 4.1M earthquake struck near Salton Sea butte Volcanoes, and a 2nd 3.2M earthquake struck near the Markagunt Volcanic plateau in Oregon.

Now this 5.8M earthquake off the coast of Oregon occurred very close to the newly erupting undersea volcano along the Axial Seamount.
    _______

This 5.8M earthquake is proof that the warning signs for a coming large earthquake show up 1-2 days before the noteworthy movement on the West coast occurs.

The “signs” of West coast movement are smaller swarms of earthquakes occurring at dormant volcanoes up the West coast BEFORE a large earthquake hits.

This has now happened multiple times, seeing dormant volcanoes move BEFORE a large earthquake hits the West coast.

    _______

Information on this earthquake from the USGS:

Does the sun trigger large earthquakes?

    Post  B.B.Baghor on Thu Jun 11, 2015 5:12 pm

The complete document is in the attachment.

    "August 3, 2014 - Columbus, OH)
KAHB LLC announces the discovery of a potential method for predicting the largest (+M8) earthquakes, using polar magnetic fields of the sun.

Using more than 35 years of data from the Wilcox Solar Observatory at Stanford University and from the United States Geological Survey,
a model was constructed using patterns discerned in the polar magnetic fields of the sun. These patterns in solar magnetism were informally
observed to match with the occurrence of large earthquakes on our planet, so mathematical modeling was used to formally develop an
    algorithm describing those relationships.

Dr. Christopher Holloman’s team of researchers at The Ohio State University Statistical Consulting Service was able to construct a model that
exhibited very strong agreement between solar magnetism patterns and the occurrence of large earthquakes. Formal testing of the model can
only be performed by examining its performance over the next few years, but the agreement was sufficient to suggest that a relationship likely
exists between solar polar fields, or magnetic fields associated with the north and south poles of the sun, and large earthquakes......."

Earthquake increases happen when the earth goes into an extended colder period which is where we are at now.

Team finds ‘unprecedented’ evidence African continent capable of producing megaquakes

June 2015 – AFRICA – Lead researcher Hannah Hilbert-Wolf and supervisor Dr. Eric Roberts used innovative methods to examine the ground around Mbeya in Tanzania where a large earthquake occurred some 25,000 years ago. They found evidence of fluidization (where soil behaves like quicksand) and upward displacement of material unprecedented in a continental setting, raising questions of how resilient the rapidly growing cities of the region would be in a major shake. ‘We can now use this to evaluate how the ground would deform in a modern earthquake,’ said Dr. Roberts. ‘This is important because the approach is inexpensive and can be used to model how structures might be affected by future events, providing a valuable tool in hazard assessment.’ Hilbert-Wolf said the team found evidence of massive ground deformation and previously unknown styles of liquefaction and fluidization, caused by past earthquakes. ‘This could be a major concern for the growing urban population of East Africa, which has similar tectonic settings and surface conditions,’ she said.

The study comes on the back of a series of damaging earthquakes already this year, including in Nepal and Papua New Guinea and the study may be of much use in predicting the effects of earthquakes in those countries. ‘What we have shown is that in developing countries in particular, which may lack extensive seismic monitoring, the rock record can be used to not only investigate the timing and frequency of past events, but also provide important insights into how the ground will behave in certain areas to seismic shock,’ said Hilbert-Wolf. In 1910, 7.5 million people lived in Tanzania when the most powerful earthquake in Africa of the twentieth century struck, collapsing houses and triggering liquefaction and fluidisation. By 2050 it is estimated that around 130 million people will live in Tanzania, mostly in constructed urban settings that are more susceptible to earthquake damage and surface deformation than traditionally fabricated buildings. –Physics

Powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake strikes Pacific south of Japan

June 2015 – JAPAN – A powerful earthquake hit a small chain of islands off the coast of Japan on Tuesday. There is currently no threat of a tsunami, officials said. The U.S. Geological Survey listed it as a 6.3-magnitude quake that struck about 154 miles from Chichi-shima, Japan, which is about 550 miles south of Tokyo.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency said the earthquake was very deep, about 300 miles below the ocean’s surface. –TN

HAWAII ISLAND – The magnitude 5.0 earthquake that shook Hawaii Island on Saturday night has been upgraded to a 5.2, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was centered about 7 miles south southeast of Volcano, in the Hilina Region of Kilauea. It was first recorded at a shallow depth of 0.1 miles down, but scientists now say the quake occurred at a depth of 5.3 miles.

“Light” shaking was felt across the Big Island, from Hilo to Kona.
The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory issued a news release after the quake.

The USGS “Did you feel it?” Web site (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/dyfi/) received more than 740 felt reports within an hour of the earthquake. It was felt across the Island of Hawaiʻi, as well as on parts of Maui, Lāna‘i, O‘ahu. Reports indicate that residents experienced light shaking (Intensity IV) during the earthquake. At these shaking intensities, damage to buildings or structures is not expected though items not properly secured could have fallen over.

A tsunami was not generated by the earthquake, reports the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. A Hawaii County Civil Defense message spread the word (note the message says magnitude 4.8, which was the recorded intensity when the recording was made).

00:0000:00Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume.

The earthquake was followed by a magnitude 3.1 earthquake located about 9 miles south southeast of Volcano at a depth of 5 miles. According to HVO:

Five aftershocks were recorded within the first hour of the earthquake, including a magnitude-3.1 earthquake at 10:54 p.m. More aftershocks can be expected, including some that might be felt.

Scientists say “eight earthquakes with magnitudes of 4 or greater, including three with magnitudes of 5 or greater, have occurred in this same area, the central part of Kīlauea’s south flank, and at nearly the same depth (8–10 km or 5–6 miles), in the last 20 years. These quakes are thought to be caused by southward movement of the volcano’s south flank in response to magmatic pressure within Kilauea’s East Rift Zone.”

HVO Scientist-in-Charge Tina Neal said in the release that the earthquakes had no apparent effect on Kīlauea’s ongoing eruptions, saying “HVO monitoring networks have not detected any significant changes in activity at the summits or rift zones of Kīlauea or other Hawaiian volcanoes.”

Don't know if this is already an angle known to you.
This earthquake alert was forewarned by Ben Davidson, the spokesman of SuspiciousObservers,
presenting his 4 minutes solar weatherforecast in the daily videos bobhardee shares here.
Ben explains how a coming earthquake activity is related to the sun's activity.
Dutch Sinse points out, in the 2:49 minute, the earlier deep Pacific Ocean seismic activity spreading

STRONG QUAKE SHAKES CHILE CAPITAL, CAUSING BUILDINGS TO SWAY

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -- A powerful magnitude-8.3 earthquake shook Chile's capital Wednesday night, causing buildings to sway and people to take refuge in the streets. Several strong aftershocks hit within minutes as tsunami alarms sounded in the port of Valparaiso and authorities issued a tsunami alert for the country's entire coast.

The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported the quake at a preliminary magnitude of 7.9 but quickly revised the reading to 8.3.

U.S. officials said the quake struck just offshore in the Pacific at 7:54 p.m. (6:54 p.m. EDT, 1154 GMT) and was centered about 141 miles (228 kilometers) north-northwest of Santiago. It said the quake was 4.8 miles (5 kilometers) below the surface.

Chile's emergency office warned that big waves caused by the quake could hit the coast by 11 p.m

September 2015 – MEXICO – A series of earthquakes, including one of magnitude 6.6, struck in waters off the west coast of Mexico early on Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of any damage. The 6.6 magnitude quake, which the U.S. Geological Survey initially reported at a magnitude of 6.8, struck at sea around 106 km (66 miles) southwest of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, at a depth of 10 km.

There were three other smaller quakes nearby, ranging in magnitude from 4.9 to 5.3. “The biggest one felt reasonably strong, but there have been no reports of damage,” an emergency services official said by telephone from Los Mochis, which is located in northern Sinaloa, and sits across the Gulf of California from the south of the Baja California peninsula. –Reuters

Magnitude-5.2 earthquake rattles Tokyo, injures 13

    Tokyo Quake

September 2015 – TOKYO, Japan – An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 5.2 struck the Tokyo metropolitan area at 5:49 a.m. on Sept. 12, injuring at least 13 people. The epicenter of the quake was about 57 kilometers beneath Tokyo Bay, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The quake recorded an intensity of lower 5 on the Japanese scale of 7 in Chofu, western Tokyo, and 4 in many of Tokyo’s 23 wards, as well as Yokohama, Kawasaki, and other areas in Kanagawa Prefecture, southern Saitama Prefecture and Urayasu, and many other municipalities in Chiba Prefecture. An intensity of 3 was recorded in parts in Ibaraki, Tochigi, Yamanashi, Gunma, Nagano and Shizuoka prefectures.

According to local fire departments, at least 11 people in Tokyo, one in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, and another in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture were injured in falls. Among them, a woman in her 80s in Nakano Ward and a resident of Matsudo in her 60s fell from beds and suffered fractured limbs. Several tectonic plates meet under Tokyo Bay and their jagged boundary lines trigger magnitude-5 to -6 earthquakes in the Kanto region every few years, agency officials explained. The earthquake had no relation with major temblors whose epicenter is directly below Tokyo, which have repeatedly rattled the region in the past, the agency said. It warned of a possible aftershock that could reach an intensity of around 4, which could exacerbate the damage caused by recent torrential rain and extensive floods in eastern Japan. –Asahi / http://ajw.asahi.com/article/behind_news/social_affairs/AJ201509120023

Mexico earthquake: Strong tremor hits Tres Picos in Chiapas

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 has struck southern Mexico, close to the town of Tres Picos in the state of Chiapas, seismologists say. (more)

The earthquake, which struck at 1:49 p.m. local time on Thursday, was centered about 8 kilometers (5 miles) southeast of Tres Picos, or 30 kilometers (19 miles) northwest of Pijijiapan. It struck about 117 kilometers (72 miles) deep, making it a relatively deep earthquake.

Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) initially measured the strength of the earthquake at 6.4 but later upgraded it to a significantly stronger 6.6. The United States Geological Survey (USGS), however, reported a preliminary magnitude of 6.4.

Witnesses reported feeling the earthquake throughout the region, with tremors felt as far away as Guatemala and Belize. Computer models from the USGS estimated that some 22.1 million people may have felt the earthquake, including 232,000 people who may have observed "moderate" shaking.

Bigger Earthquakes May Be Coming to Nepal

SAN FRANCISCO — The terrifying magnitude-7.8 Gorkha earthquake that rattled Nepal in April is nothing compared to the temblors scientists predict could happen in the future.

The shaking observed was "unusually gentle" given the magnitude of the earthquake, leading to far fewer landslides and glacial lake overflows than could have been seen, researchers said here today (Dec. 16) at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union.

"The situation could have been far, far worse," said Jeffrey Kargel, who was a co-author on one of two related papers published today in the journal Science and presented at the meeting. He and other scientists aren't sure exactly why the quake didn't wreak more havoc, but another temblor, even of similar magnitude, to hit the area may not be so forgiving, the researchers said.

Quake strikes northeast India; toll reaches four dead, nearly 100 injured
Sunday, January 3, 2016 BISWAJYOTI DAS FOR REUTERS
GUWAHATI, India (Reuters) – A powerful earthquake struck northeastern India before dawn on Monday, killing at least four people and injuring nearly 100, though the toll was expected to rise, with rescue efforts hampered by severed power supplies and telecommunication links. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake of magnitude 6.8 was 57 km (35 miles) deep and struck 29…

Magnitude-6.8 earthquake hits Alaska, jolting nerves
    http://www.bigstory.ap.org/article/3c51faed18ce46b68c4cb7d889a5ae20/federal-agency-magnitude-64-earthquake-hit-southern-alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A magnitude-6.8 earthquake knocked items off shelves and walls in south-central Alaska and jolted the nerves of residents in this earthquake-prone region. But there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The earthquake struck about 1:30 a.m. Alaska time and was centered 53 miles west of Anchor Point in the Kenai Peninsula, which is about 160 miles southwest of Anchorage, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. About two hours later, a magnitude-4.3 aftershock hit the Cook Inlet, the agency said. A slightly stronger aftershock — magnitude-4.7 —hit the Cook Inlet at 5.29 a.m.

The possibility of a gas leak led to the evacuation of more than a dozen homes in Kenai.

The earthquake was widely felt by residents of Anchorage. But the Anchorage and Valdez police departments said they have not received any reports of injury or significant damage.
